I just bought a used Performax 10 20 for $190. The fellow that sold it bought it and it had the manual and the tool for changing the paper but he doesn't know where the manual is and the tool he left at his project house but said he would get it for me. I have not run anything through the drum sander yet. I can see how the drum is raised and lowered but there is also another black knob on the side and the fellow didn't know what it did as he said he never moved it. According to him he had no tracking problem but we will see. Anyway I am trying to locate a manual and did a search on this forum but couldn't fine any place where I could get one. I also did a search using google and I was not able to find any place where I could get one. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the manual or where I can buy a copy? Also, I may need to buy the little tool to change the paper although he said he found it just as easy to change the paper without using the tool. However, the reports seem to indicate the tool is helpful. So I think if he doesn't give me a call with the tool I will buy one. The machine seems in good shape so time will tell I guess. I have been looking for one of these for some time but when they come up they are often gone or the price of a used one is more than I want to pay. Any help in locating a manual would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck |

Never used the tool on mine for changing paper. The black knob is for adjusting the slope of the drum so it cuts parallel to the bed for an even thickness, but you need to loosen two bolts first (and then lock them after) |

I like the tool. I forget what they call it. For me it's like an extra hand when changing paper. |

Thanks for the replys. I now have downloaded the manual and I know what that knob is for. It makes sense now that the fellow I bought it from said he never messed with the knob and didn't know what it did. Thanks also for the comment on putting on the sand paper I will remember to refit it. Chuck |

That knob as you know by now, adjusts the angle of the drum with respect to the bed. But it doesn't work as you'd expect. It only works to pull the floating end of the drum up; it doesn't move the free end down. It's poorly placed too, making it just about useless. So to adjust, run that adjuster out a turn or so, I loosen the two top button head cap screws, and push the floating end of the drum down. You'll see the button head screws move towards the end of the drum. Then use a gauge piece as a feeler gauge under the drum to set the angle so that the floating end of the drum is a skosh higher than the fixed end. Re-tighten the two button-heads and check. I have it almost parallel, with a barely-discernible ridge left at the center of a top. Pat |
